Iran Grants Passage Through Hormuz Strait to Five Friendly Nations, Including India

Tehran, March 26: Amid ongoing conflicts in West Asia, Iran has announced that it will not impose restrictions on vessels from five friendly nations, including India. This decision allows these ships to navigate the strategically vital Hormuz Strait, while access remains limited for other countries.

Despite the regional turmoil, Iran has granted safe passage to vessels from India, Russia, China, Pakistan, and Iraq through this crucial maritime route.

In an interview with Iranian state television, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi clarified that the Hormuz Strait has not been entirely closed. He noted that certain countries, with which Iran maintains friendly relations, have been exempted from restrictions.

According to Iran’s official news agency, Araghchi stated, “There is no reason to allow the enemy to pass through the Strait. We have permitted passage for countries we consider friends. We have allowed China, Russia, India, Iraq, and Pakistan to transit.”

He also indicated that vessels from nations deemed adversaries or involved in the current conflict would not be permitted to navigate the Strait. Specifically, ships from the United States, Israel, and certain Gulf nations, which play a role in the ongoing crisis, will not be allowed passage.

Araghchi expressed satisfaction with Iran’s control over this vital waterway, stating that the country has demonstrated its authority in the region after decades.

He mentioned that when Iran initially announced a partial blockade of the Hormuz Strait, many observers dismissed it as a mere show. However, he emphasized that subsequent developments have underscored Iran’s ability to assert its position and establish control over one of the world’s most important energy transit routes.
