Mumbai, March 29: Political activities in Kerala are intensifying ahead of the state assembly elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Palakkad on Sunday, where he addressed a large public gathering. Dressed in the traditional Kerala attire, the mundu, he expressed a sense of renewed energy and change in the state. Modi credited this transformation to the people of Kerala and the hard work of millions of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers.
During his speech, he paid tribute to party workers who lost their lives due to political violence. Modi stated that Kerala is now sending a message of change. He claimed that the popularity of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is steadily rising, and public trust in the BJP is strengthening. The massive crowd at the rally, he noted, signifies that this is not merely an electoral atmosphere but a people’s movement. He highlighted that the youth, women, and farmers of the state are now standing with the BJP and NDA.
The Prime Minister also praised Palakkad’s natural beauty and cultural heritage, referring to it as the gateway to Kerala. He noted that the region’s greenery, traditions, and hardworking people make it special. Modi mentioned the Kalpathy Temple, often compared to Kashi, emphasizing its significance to him as a Member of Parliament from Kashi.
He acknowledged Kerala’s social and spiritual heritage, paying homage to great saints and reformers like Sri Narayana Guru, Chattampi Swamikal, Mannathu Padmanabhan, Mahatma Ayyankali, and Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara, who have shaped the social consciousness of the state.
Modi criticized the current political situation in Kerala, accusing the two major alliances—the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF)—of being trapped in vote bank politics while neglecting the state’s development. He described both alliances as corrupt, suggesting an informal agreement between them regarding the distribution of power.
The Prime Minister also alleged that the Congress and Communist parties are trying to mislead the public by accusing each other of being the BJP’s B-team. He asserted that the real competition lies with the BJP, and the public is beginning to realize this.
Modi expressed confidence that if the BJP and NDA come to power in Kerala, the state will witness renewed development. He promised to create a “developed Kerala,” stating it is his guarantee and that the people are ready for this change.
He referenced a recent controversy regarding the pending payment of Dearness Allowance and holidays for government employees in Kerala. While Congress blames the Left for these issues, he pointed out that conditions are similarly poor in states governed by Congress. He cited Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh as examples of stalled development under Congress rule.
The Prime Minister highlighted that Kerala is burdened with over ₹5 lakh crore in debt, which has tripled in the last decade. He emphasized that the people of Kerala are demanding answers about where this money has gone, asserting that it has ended up in the pockets of the LDF.
When the BJP comes to power in Kerala, he vowed to ensure that the wealth acquired through corruption is reclaimed. Every rupee will be accounted for, and a thorough investigation will be conducted to guarantee that funds are used for the genuine development of the state and its people.
