Jodhpur, 6 December (Daily Kiran) – Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said that the opposition had raised the issue of Special Intensive Review (SIR) during the last monsoon session of Parliament. At that time, the government had indicated willingness to discuss election reforms. SIR is related to the Election Commission’s activities. Despite disruptions in Parliament over two days, members have now agreed to have a discussion on election reforms.
The Union Minister arrived at Jodhpur Airport on Saturday. During his interaction with journalists, he spoke on several topics including the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the opposition’s protest over the SIR issue in the Lok Sabha, and the falling rupee against the dollar. Meghwal said that on Monday, the first discussion will be on Vande Mataram, which has completed 150 years. On Tuesday, the Parliament will discuss election reforms, where the opposition has full right to express their views and the government will respond accordingly.
Addressing the rupee’s value reaching 90 against the dollar, Meghwal stated that the size of India’s economy must be considered. He also pointed out that several countries are now trading with India using the rupee instead of the dollar, indicating the rupee’s growing strength.
On the demand for recognition of the Rajasthani language, Meghwal said that Rajasthani is our language and there is a collective desire to include it in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. Efforts are ongoing to reach consensus, and once achieved, steps will be taken forward.
Regarding the Indigo Airlines crisis, Meghwal noted that the matter was raised in the Lok Sabha recently. The Civil Aviation Minister responded, and improvements have been made. More reforms in this area will follow soon.
Speaking on President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India, Meghwal said that India has strong relations with major countries. India’s economy is growing and is currently the world’s fourth largest, moving towards becoming the third largest. Therefore, bilateral relations with all countries should be good. Russia remains an old and trusted friend, and the visit was successful.
