New Delhi, August 5: AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi has sharply reacted to a statement made by Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana. He stated on Tuesday that remarks made from the Speaker’s chair are not merely comments but are related to the dignity of the Assembly.
Owaisi took to the social media platform X, asserting, “If Satish Mahana, sitting on the Speaker’s chair of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, says, ‘Those who opposed the Ram Temple, if they have donated, should show the receipt, then we will see if their money was stolen or not,’ this matter is not just about a statement but concerns the dignity of the Assembly itself.”
He raised a critical question: can an elected member of the Assembly no longer call theft a theft based on their faith? Owaisi further inquired, “Will people now have to provide a religious affidavit before calling murder a murder or robbery a robbery?”
Linking this argument to other issues, the AIMIM leader questioned why the same principle does not apply to Waqf boards, where non-Muslims are forcibly included. He stated, “Then why is this principle not applied to Waqf boards?”
Owaisi compared the Hindu Endowment Boards with Waqf boards, questioning why Hindu Endowment Boards do not receive the constitutional protection that Waqf boards do. He also referenced the Triple Talaq law, stating, “How does a party with not a single Muslim MP in the Lok Sabha have the right to create unconstitutional laws like Triple Talaq, which only pertain to Muslims?”
In conclusion, Owaisi emphasized that if laws and principles are the same, they should apply equally to all. He stated, “If the principle is the same, it should be applied equally to everyone.”
