Over 200,000 Affected by Floods in Odisha, Chief Minister Promises Support

Bhubaneswar, July 29: Over 200,000 people have been affected by floods in several districts of Odisha. In response, Chief Minister Mohan Chandra Majhi assured on Wednesday that the safety and lives of every citizen are the state’s top priority.

CM Majhi posted on the social media platform ‘X’, stating that he is personally monitoring the flood situation across the state.

He emphasized, “The safety and lives of every citizen are our highest priority. My government and I are closely observing the ongoing rains and the flood situation in several rivers.”

The Chief Minister mentioned that he has reviewed the flood situation with the Chief Secretary and the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), directing the entire administrative machinery to ensure the safety and well-being of those in affected areas.

CM Majhi urged, “I appeal to everyone not to panic or fear. We stand firmly with you at every step. Please follow the advice issued by the administration and stay safe.”

Highlighting the measures taken by the state government to address the changing situation, the Chief Minister noted that three senior IAS officers have been deployed in Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur districts to oversee the evacuation of people to safe locations and to monitor relief and rescue operations. These districts are among the worst affected by the floods.

He stated that the office of the Special Relief Commissioner and the State Emergency Operations Center have been instructed to work 24 hours a day to closely monitor river water levels and the overall flood situation.

Additionally, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), fire services, and police personnel have been put on high alert to evacuate residents from vulnerable low-lying areas when necessary.

CM Majhi also assured that all relief camps in the affected regions are equipped with safe drinking water, cooked food, emergency health services, anti-venom for snake bites, and sufficient fodder for animals.

To prevent theft and secure the property of families relocated to safe areas, police have increased night patrols in sensitive locations.

Officials have been instructed to promptly assess the damage caused by the floods and to provide compensation to those whose homes and agricultural land have been affected as soon as possible.
