Bhopal, April 19: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, along with BJP state president Hemant Khandelwal and national vice president Rekha Verma, held a press conference to criticize the opposition following the rejection of the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha.
During the media interaction at the BJP state headquarters in Bhopal, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav accused the Congress party of harboring an anti-women mindset. He announced a grassroots protest against Congress that will last for ten days across the state.
Commenting on the rejection of the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill, Yadav stated, “What happened in our democracy has reached a very serious turning point. We have closely observed the events, the reasons behind them, and those responsible for turning this into a tragedy. We have seen the intentions of those involved one by one. We heard about Draupadi’s disrobing 5,000 years ago, but what happened to women and the way their dignity was violated is something we witnessed firsthand in this incident in Parliament.”
Yadav further remarked, “Prime Minister Modi had written an open letter to all parties, urging them to support this bill. The opposition, which supported the bill in 2023, has now reversed its stance at a crucial moment. They initially supported it because elections were approaching. This time, by opposing the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill, they have set a prime example of opportunism.”
He also targeted the DMK and Priyanka Gandhi, stating that the DMK spread rumors solely to win elections and is following a divisive policy. He criticized leaders who advocate for women’s rights but oppose bills that empower women.
Hemant Khandelwal added, “What transpired in the Lok Sabha was not just a parliamentary process; it was a significant issue related to half the population. However, the opposition and Congress prevented its passage.”
Rekha Verma stated that while there was a discussion on the Nari Shakti Vandan Act in the Lok Sabha, the opposition did not allow the bill to pass. For 70 years, women in this country have fought for their rights, seeking 33% reservation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are working towards enhancing women’s participation. Since women constitute half the population, they deserve their rights. When this bill was presented in 2023, the opposition supported it because elections were on the horizon. Opposition parties talk about women’s empowerment from platforms but retreat when it comes to political participation.
