Ranchi, August 7: The CID’s special team investigating irregularities in the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission civil services exam has intensified its efforts. They are probing allegations of illegal money collection from candidates.
A joint team from the CID and local police conducted a raid in the Hatbor village of the Giridih district. They detained Vikas Pandey, the father-in-law of the main accused, Manoj Kumar Tiwari, also known as Abhay Tiwari, for questioning. Vikas Pandey is currently employed as an assistant teacher at a local government school.
During hours of intense interrogation at his residence, the CID team took Vikas Pandey along for further investigation. The agency is particularly examining the roles of Abhay Tiwari’s brothers-in-law, who are the sons of Vikas Pandey. Both have been summoned for questioning but have been missing since receiving their notices.
Authorities suspect that they may have fled abroad to evade legal action, and they are currently reviewing their travel documents for confirmation. Alongside this, the CID and the financial intelligence unit are conducting a thorough investigation into the accused family’s real estate and financial activities.
Sources indicate that the investigation is focusing on a multi-crore hospital under construction in Deoghar, land purchases in Ranchi, three luxury flats, and other properties in Giridih and surrounding districts. The investigation team is trying to trace the financial sources used for the construction and purchase of these assets to determine if they align with legitimate income sources.
This high-profile case has revealed that several family members of the accused hold significant government positions. Abhay Tiwari was employed as a marketing officer in Podaiyahaat, Dumka, and has passed the 14th Jharkhand PSC preliminary exam. His wife is currently serving as an assistant section officer in Ranchi.
There are also reports of other family members being selected through various competitive exams, causing a stir in administrative and government circles. The CID believes that a large syndicate has been manipulating OMR sheets and facilitating ‘settlements’ in major competitive exams like the Jharkhand PSC and Jharkhand PSC CGL, charging candidates hefty sums. If the financial investigation uncovers substantial evidence of assets beyond known income and illegal transactions, more influential individuals may face legal repercussions in the coming days.
