Opposition Alleges BJPs Unfair Victory in Bengal Elections

New Delhi, May 5: Following the results of the West Bengal Assembly elections, opposition parties have raised serious concerns regarding the election process and outcomes. Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad stated that the results suggest the country is moving towards dictatorship.

Awadhesh Prasad accused the BJP of winning the elections in West Bengal through unfair means. He expressed that democracy and the constitution are under threat, casting doubt on the impartiality of the Election Commission.

He emphasized that the strength of any democracy relies on the independence and fairness of the Election Commission. Recent actions of the Commission do not meet this standard. Additionally, he criticized the central government for allegedly using central security forces to influence the results. He pointed out that external personnel were assigned to election duties instead of local staff, raising questions about transparency.

Congress MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh also expressed surprise at the election results. He noted that the atmosphere on the ground appeared to favor Mamata Banerjee, but her loss in Bhawanipur has raised doubts among the public. Nonetheless, he acknowledged the importance of accepting and respecting the people’s mandate in a democratic system.

Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput stated that the victory of democracy and the power of the people has been affirmed, yet questions remain about the roles of the BJP and the Election Commission.

He alleged that religion and administrative machinery were exploited during the elections in West Bengal and Assam, compromising the fairness of democracy.

In Raipur, Congress leader T.S. Singh Deo offered a different perspective on Mamata Banerjee’s defeat. He remarked that she has previously contested difficult seats, and losses are part of politics. He cited that in the last election, she also chose a challenging seat where her chances were slim.

T.S. Singh Deo further noted that the BJP securing over 200 seats was unexpected, surprising political analysts. He claimed that if the BJP had conducted a fair campaign, the outcome would have been different, suggesting that West Bengal was won through unfair means.
