Chinas Hydrogen Production Capacity Surpasses 51 Million Tons Annually

Beijing, August 13: The Chinese National Energy Administration released the Hydrogen Energy Development Report (2025) on August 11. The report indicates that the hydrogen energy sector in China continues to grow steadily. Both hydrogen production and consumption are advancing globally, with a systematic effort to establish a clean and efficient hydrogen supply system.

By the end of 2025, China’s annual hydrogen production capacity is expected to exceed 51 million tons, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 1.4%. Last year, hydrogen gas production reached 39 million tons, marking an impressive growth of over 7.3% compared to the previous year.

It is important to note that the hydrogen energy sector is a high-tech field with significant commercial potential. As of last year, 66 countries and regions worldwide have released hydrogen energy development strategies.

The report also states that during the 15th Five-Year Plan, the expansion of various hydrogen energy applications will lead to a more comprehensive development of the hydrogen sector’s infrastructure and ecosystem in China, showcasing clear progress in the country’s hydrogen industry.
