Opposition Accuses Election Commission of Acting Under BJP Influence
Opposition leaders criticize the Election Commission, claiming it operates under the BJPs directive and lacks independence.

New Delhi, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : Amid ongoing protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, opposition parties have intensified their criticism of the Election Commission‘s role. They allege that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is undermining the independence of constitutional institutions.
In Mumbai, Congress leader Hussain Dalwai expressed doubts about the Election Commission’s impartiality. He stated, “The public no longer trusts the Election Commission. It behaves like an institution that bows to every order from the government. Essentially, they have become employees of the government. The Commission no longer makes independent decisions; it operates at the BJP’s behest. The BJP is dismantling all constitutional institutions.”
In Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party MLA Gopal Rai echoed these sentiments, calling for Gyanesh Kumar’s removal. He questioned the Modi government’s reluctance to act, asking, “What compels this government to protect Gyanesh Kumar?”
Rai welcomed the Supreme Court’s notice to the Election Commission and the Chief Election Commissioner regarding a petition from the INDIA bloc. He expressed hope for a swift resolution, stating, “The country is in turmoil and demands justice quickly. For a long time, petitions have been pending in the Supreme Court, but dates keep getting pushed back. I hope the Supreme Court will hear the pleas and deliver justice soon.”
Responding to Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s remarks about the government’s readiness for dialogue, Rai criticized the administration. He accused the government of saying one thing while doing another. “The government talks about dialogue but acts with oppression. We merely want a space for peaceful protests at Jantar Mantar. The government should engage in dialogue and find a solution.”
