Oppo Find X9 Ultra to Feature Revolutionary 10x Optical Zoom with First Camera Samples

Mumbai, March 24:
Oppo is set to launch the Find X9 Ultra next month, and the device has already entered its pre-launch phase. As part of the anticipation, the company has begun revealing early details about its hardware.

The latest announcement centers on the camera capabilities. Oppo confirmed today that the Find X9 Ultra will include a new Hasselblad-branded 10x optical telephoto lens. The company describes this innovation as akin to “putting a teleconverter inside a smartphone.”

On paper, the system boasts native 10x optical zoom, 20x “optical quality” zoom, and up to 120x digital zoom.

Zhuo Shijie, the head of the Find series, describes this as a significant technical achievement. He notes that while smartphone manufacturers have gradually enhanced zoom capabilities over the years, incorporating a true 10x optical system into a slim and lightweight device has not been accomplished until now. Oppo is breaking that barrier with the Find X9 Ultra.

How Oppo Achieved 10x Optical Zoom in the Find X9 Ultra

To realize this capability, the company has developed a new periscope design based on what it calls a five-reflection architecture. This innovative design allows for an equivalent focal length of 460mm while maintaining a relatively slim profile for the phone.

Significant engineering efforts have also been made behind the scenes. Oppo has created a method to precisely cut the internal prism at a nanometer scale, resulting in an “ultra-high purity air aperture.” This design allows cleaner light to pass through while minimizing stray light that can compromise image quality.

On the manufacturing front, Oppo employs a technique known as Active Optical Alignment (AOA). This process dynamically adjusts the position of the lens and sensor during production, followed by multiple calibration rounds. This ensures that each unit performs closer to laboratory conditions, reducing variability between devices.

The camera system is complemented by a custom 50-megapixel sensor and Oppo’s LUMO imaging engine. Together, these components are designed to capture high-resolution images at long distances while enhancing dynamic range. The company has also fine-tuned the microlens and color filters specifically for telephoto applications.
