Bhubaneswar, March 22: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi highlighted the importance of water security in building a “prosperous and developed Odisha” and urged all citizens to contribute to this mission.
During a gathering at the state-level World Water Day celebration held at the Lok Seva Bhawan, the Chief Minister stated that the goal is to eliminate gender inequality in water management and strengthen the rural economy. He emphasized that water security is essential for creating a prosperous and developed Odisha. To ensure water security for all citizens, women and self-help groups have been included as “water partners.”
In line with this year’s World Water Day theme, “Water and Gender Equality,” he called upon all citizens to support water security initiatives. He further noted that the proper use of water and the availability of clean drinking water are urgent needs.
Majhi remarked, “Thus, water security is necessary to meet the growing demands in various sectors under the Odisha Vision Document 2036 and 2047.” He urged everyone to commit to ensuring that not a single drop of water is wasted, stressing that the message of water conservation should reach every household on this World Water Day.
He also emphasized the importance of educating children about water conservation from school, as they are the future “water warriors.” “We will not waste water and will conserve rainwater to keep the soil moist,” he added.
Notably, on this occasion, Chief Minister Majhi inaugurated several water resource projects worth ₹2,612 crores. This includes the foundation stone laying of 17 projects costing approximately ₹2,292 crores and the inauguration of 124 projects with a total cost of around ₹320 crores.
