Odisha to Launch Door-to-Door Survey for Upcoming Panchayat and Urban Local Body Elections

Starting October 26, Odisha will conduct a door-to-door survey for accurate voter lists ahead of the 2027 elections.

Bhubaneswar, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : The Chief Election Commissioner of Odisha, Madhusudan Padhi, announced on Thursday that a comprehensive door-to-door survey will commence on October 26. This initiative aims to create a transparent and error-free voter list for the upcoming 2027 Panchayat and Urban Local Body elections.

During a press conference, Padhi emphasized that the survey is essential for ensuring the accuracy and transparency of the voter list. Designated staff members will visit every household to collect necessary information.

The survey will focus on verifying details related to the voter list, ensuring that eligible voters are accurately included. The entire process of conducting the survey and preparing the voter list will adhere to a strict timeline.

According to the schedule released on Thursday, the draft of the voter list will be published on January 1, 2027, allowing voters to verify their names and details. Voters will have 20 days to file claims or objections regarding any discrepancies in the voter list.

Specific forms will be used for adding names, correcting details, or removing ineligible entries from the voter list for rural, urban, and municipal areas. Applications for adding names or correcting details can be submitted using Claim Form 16 in rural areas, Form 3 in urban areas, and Form 7 in municipal areas. Similarly, objections for removing names can be filed using Form 17 in rural areas, Form 4 in urban areas, and Form 8 in municipal areas.

After the publication of the final voter list, claims and objections will be reviewed by Assistant Election Registration Officers (AEROs) and Election Registration Officers (EROs). Necessary actions will be taken as per regulations. The final voter list is set to be published on February 10, ensuring the timely preparation of voter lists for the upcoming elections.

To ensure the smooth execution of the survey, various ground-level personnel will be deployed. Booth-Level Officers (BLOs), Anganwadi Workers (AWWs), Jal Sathi, Swachh Sathi, and ASHA workers will visit homes to gather essential information.

For the effective implementation and regular monitoring of this exercise, the Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO), BLO supervisors, AEROs, and EROs will fulfill their respective responsibilities. The survey aims to systematically list all family members within the same ward and polling station, link household voters to a specific house number, and involve political parties through booth-level agents.
