Australia and New Zealand Womens Teams to Compete for the Rose Bowl Trophy in T20 Series

The T20 series between Australia and New Zealand will now also feature the prestigious Rose Bowl Trophy, starting this Sunday in Christchurch.

Christchurch, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : The highly anticipated T20 series between Australia and New Zealand is set to kick off this Sunday in Christchurch. The series, consisting of three matches, will see the winner awarded the prestigious Rose Bowl Trophy.

Traditionally, the Rose Bowl Trophy has been awarded to the victor of the One Day International (ODI) series between these two cricketing nations since its inception in 1985. Now, for the first time, the T20 series will also carry the same honor. The opening match will take place at North Sydney Oval.

In a statement from New Zealand Cricket, it was noted that the Rose Bowl has been contested 31 times since 1985, and this standalone T20 series marks a significant addition to its legacy. This summer, the Rose Bowl will be contested twice, as New Zealand will return to Australia in March for three ODI matches in Canberra and Melbourne.

For both the ODI and T20 series, the overall winner will be determined by the total number of victories. In the event of a tie, the current holder of the trophy retains it.

Katherine Campbell, Chief Cricket Operations Officer for New Zealand Cricket and a former player, expressed excitement about this new chapter for the Rose Bowl. “The Rose Bowl is a prestigious trophy that holds great significance for current and former players. With the increasing amount of T20 cricket being played, this is a fantastic opportunity to maintain the legacy of the Rose Bowl and advance the history between us and our Australian competitors,” she said.

New Zealand captain Amelia Kerr emphasized the importance of the Rose Bowl in New Zealand’s cricketing culture, stating, “We all know what the Rose Bowl represents and its significance in New Zealand. Great players and teams have fought for it over the years, and we would love the chance to be a part of that history.”

Australian captain Sophie Molineux also acknowledged the Rose Bowl’s unique role in the rivalry. “The Rose Bowl is a very special part of the competition between Australia and New Zealand. Having the chance to win it in every bilateral white-ball series adds another level of excitement. We understand how much this match means to both teams, and we are eager to compete for the trophy on home soil in Sydney.”
