Amit Shah Questions Punjab Government on Rising Crime and Drug Issues
Amit Shah criticizes the Punjab government for failing to address rising crime and drug issues, demanding results over announcements.

New Delhi, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : Central Home Minister Amit Shah has raised serious concerns regarding the escalating threats of drug abuse, gang violence, and organized crime in Punjab. He criticized the state government led by Bhagwant Mann, emphasizing that the people of Punjab require answers and tangible results rather than mere announcements.
In a post on the social media platform X, Shah stated, “Punjab is currently grappling with the increasing menace of drugs, gangsters, and organized crime. The pressing question for Bhagwant Mann’s government is: Who will ensure the safety of Punjab’s citizens?”
He referenced alarming incidents, including a father who resorted to poisoning under pressure and the daylight murder of Parvinder Singh Jhota, a vocal opponent of drug abuse in Mansa. Shah noted that the Ministry of Home Affairs would seek explanations from the Punjab government regarding these troubling events.
Shah highlighted that the incidents in Dirba and Mansa have raised serious questions about law and order in Punjab. He mentioned that Jhota’s father has made grave accusations against the Aam Aadmi Party government and its legislators.
He asserted that the drug trade is thriving in Punjab, and the threat of organized crime is escalating, putting those who speak out against drugs at risk. Shah insisted that the people of Punjab deserve answers and results, not just announcements. He called for decisive action against drug networks and a fair investigation into any political protection afforded to criminals.
Meanwhile, Amit Shah reiterated the commitment of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to create a drug-free, gangster-free, and safe Punjab if they come to power in the state. He stated, “Once we form the government in Punjab, we will work tirelessly to combat drug trafficking, protect the future of our youth, take stringent actions against criminals, and establish a rule of law where no citizen has to live in fear.”
Punjab BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh also condemned the deteriorating law and order situation and rampant drug trafficking in the state. He criticized Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for his delayed meetings regarding these pressing issues.
Chugh remarked, “Gangsters are using jails as their offices. The state is increasingly entangled in law and order problems. Major city figures are being targeted and shot at. Extortion is rampant, and the collection of ‘gunda tax’ has become commonplace. There is virtually no law and order left in Punjab.”
He accused the Chief Minister and state ministers of establishing collection and torture centers at their homes, where individuals are either forced to comply or face severe consequences. Chugh lamented that Punjab has reached a critical point of crisis.
