Bhubaneswar, August 11: The Odisha government has announced that farmers will not be required to register with AgriStack to sell rice during the upcoming Kharif purchase season of 2026-27. Officials assured that no farmer will be denied the opportunity to sell their produce due to the lack of an ID.
This decision was made during a meeting of the inter-ministerial committee chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo.
The meeting included key ministers such as Suresh Pujari, Minister of Revenue and Disaster Management; Krishna Chandra Patra, Minister of Food Supply and Consumer Welfare; Rabi Narayan Naik, Minister of Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water; and Pradeep Bal Samant, Minister of Cooperation.
The government stated that both types of registration slips, with and without AgriStack registration, will be valid for rice purchases. Currently, registration facilities are available at the nearest Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) and Common Service Centers (CSC).
The inter-ministerial committee aims to achieve a registration target of at least 50% of farmers for the Kharif season. To accomplish this, the departments of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, Food Supply and Consumer Welfare, and Cooperation will collaborate at the administrative level, with assistance from the Revenue Department. So far, 94,657 farmers have registered to sell rice for Kharif 2026-27, with the highest registrations occurring in Balasore.
To prevent misinformation regarding registration and sales, the state government has initiated awareness campaigns at the sub-division and gram panchayat levels across Odisha. Village Agriculture Workers (VAWs) will assist farmers with registration, and officials have been instructed to provide receipts to applicants.
The meeting also reviewed the purchases made during the 2025-26 Rabi season, where 20.46 lakh metric tons of rice were bought from 3,63,553 farmers, compared to 19.18 lakh metric tons in 2024-25.
To date, 3,63,149 farmers have received ₹4,844 crore as Minimum Support Price (MSP) and input assistance.
Meanwhile, the government is developing specific guidelines to address potential challenges in the registration and purchase process for sharecroppers.
Notably, AgriStack is an integrated platform that consolidates farmers’ data and generates a unique farmer ID during registration, facilitating easier access to government benefits. Approximately 600,000 farmers have registered on this platform so far. The state government has assured its commitment to ensuring that no farmer in Odisha is deprived of selling their rice crop.
