New Delhi, August 11: On the second day of the monsoon session of the Delhi Assembly, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented the Delhi Laxmi Yojana (DLY), dismissing false claims made by the opposition. She emphasized that this initiative is a significant step towards empowering 1.7 million women in the city.
Responding to questions raised in the Assembly regarding the DLY, which promises to provide eligible women with ₹2,500 each month, Gupta stated that this scheme is one of the largest welfare initiatives in Delhi’s history.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the aim of the DLY is to financially empower women who manage their families and households but often go unrecognized for their contributions.
Criticizing members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Gupta remarked that those who profess to advocate for the interests of Delhi’s women lacked the courage to stay in the Assembly and hear the government’s response.
She reiterated that the DLY is unprecedented in its scale, stating, “No government, whether in power for 15 years or 11 years, has ever designed such a large-scale program for women.”
Gupta pointed out that while many promises have been made in the past, no previous government has provided even a single rupee to Delhi’s women under such a scheme. “For the first time, a government has shown the courage to implement this initiative,” she added.
The Chief Minister confirmed that the BJP government has fulfilled its promise and turned its commitment into reality, allocating a budget of ₹5,100 crores for the DLY.
She mentioned that the scheme is initially designed for three years to benefit the first 1.7 million women. If necessary, the government will not hesitate to expand the program in the future.
Gupta addressed concerns raised by some individuals regarding the conditions of the scheme, particularly the issue related to having three children. She clarified that families do not need permission to plan their family size. Each family can make decisions based on their needs and circumstances.
