New Delhi, August 11: Former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly and his wife, Dona Ganguly, have received death threats. A formal written complaint was filed at the Thakurpukur police station by Ganguly’s personal secretary.
The complaint states, “I, Tania Bhattacharya, am writing this letter on behalf of Sourav Ganguly, with whom I work as a personal secretary. I wish to bring to your attention a serious matter concerning threatening letters received by Sourav Ganguly and his family.”
The complaint further details, “For the past few months, we have been receiving letters containing offensive comments about (Sourav) Ganguly from an unknown individual. Initially, we paid little attention, thinking it was the act of someone who dislikes him expressing their anger. However, today we received two letters addressed to Sourav and Dona Ganguly, in which the sender not only wrote hateful remarks but also issued serious threats to the lives and safety of Sourav Ganguly, Dona Ganguly, and those who work with or for them.”
The complaint emphasizes, “The seriousness of the threats in these letters has raised our concerns. These letters have escalated from hate-filled or derogatory comments to explicit threats to life and personal safety. Therefore, we believe immediate police intervention and investigation are necessary. Given the gravity of the situation, I request that you take appropriate action, register the complaint, investigate, identify the person sending these threatening letters, and ensure the safety of Sourav Ganguly, Dona Ganguly, and their staff.”
Reports indicate that these letters were sent via courier to Sourav Ganguly’s residence. The sender’s name on the package was Arun Kumar, a resident of Belghoria. The police are currently investigating the matter.
