Odisha Chief Minister Reviews Flood Relief Efforts

Bhubaneswar, August 18: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Chandra Majhi emphasized that ensuring the safety of flood-affected individuals and providing them with immediate assistance is the state government’s top priority.

During a visit to flood-affected villages in Jajpur and Bhadrak districts, the Chief Minister made these remarks alongside senior ministers and officials. Instead of traveling by helicopter, he opted to assess the situation firsthand by touring the affected areas on a motorcycle and by boat.

Throughout his visit, he inspected shelter sites, reviewed the cooked meals being provided to those affected, engaged with farmers, and assessed crop damage.

In a post on the social media platform X, Chief Minister Majhi stated, “Today, I visited the flood-affected areas, evaluated the situation, and interacted with villagers. Immediate relief materials, dry and cooked food, clean drinking water, and health services are being provided to affected families, while rescue and assistance efforts are being intensified. Ensuring the safety of affected individuals and delivering essential aid is the government’s highest priority.”

He further noted that rescue and relief operations are ongoing at a war footing, with the administration working around the clock to evacuate people from affected areas, supply necessary materials, and deliver aid without delay.

Majhi added that there is a special focus on delivering relief supplies, food, drinking water, and essential health services to the affected regions. The situation is being monitored continuously, and immediate action is being taken as needed. The government is making every effort to reach out to those in need.

According to official information, six districts—Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, and Kendrapara—have been affected, impacting 66 blocks, 448 gram panchayats, 1,304 villages, and 10 urban local bodies. Over 7.8 million people have been affected by the floods, with more than 2.7 million individuals evacuated to safer locations.
