Lucknow, May 30: Lucknow police achieved a significant success by arresting notorious criminal Mohammad Shah Rukh, also known as Shera Khan, who had a bounty of ₹25,000 on his head. He was apprehended in the Ghazipur area. The accused is also linked to a case from November 2018, where he threatened to kill Salim Khan, the father of Bollywood actor Salman Khan.
According to police reports, Shera Khan fled after snatching a woman’s chain near Irm Convent School in Indira Nagar about three months ago. A joint team from Ghazipur police station and the East Zone Crime Team spotted a suspicious motorcyclist near a shrine on Banda Road on May 28. When the police attempted to stop him, he tried to escape but was quickly caught.
Authorities recovered the stolen chain, ₹8,000 in cash related to another incident, and the motorcycle used in the crime from the accused.
Shera Khan has a long criminal history, being a history-sheeter from Prayagraj. He faces between 15 to 20 criminal cases across various police stations, including charges of extortion, attempted murder, bomb blasts, and illegal possession of firearms. In 2018, he threatened Salim Khan and his personal assistant over the phone, claiming to be an associate of gangster Chhota Shakeel. An FIR was filed at the Bandra police station in Mumbai, leading to his arrest with the assistance of UP police.
In 2023, a viral image showed him brandishing a revolver, along with an audio clip boasting about his willingness to kill for mafia don Atiq Ahmed.
A case under section 304(2) of the IPC was registered at Ghazipur police station, with section 317(2) added later. Authorities are gathering information from various police stations to investigate the accused’s other criminal cases. Senior police officials praised the team for their efforts. The police plan to present the accused in court to secure a remand and dismantle his entire gang.
