North Delhi Strikers Triumph Over East Delhi Riders in Womens DPL 2026 Opener

New Delhi, August 21: The North Delhi Strikers kicked off the Women’s Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2026 with an impressive victory. On Friday, the team showcased their skills by defeating the East Delhi Riders by 9 wickets.

North Delhi chased down a target of 102 runs in just 14.5 overs, losing only one wicket in the process. Batting first, the East Delhi Riders struggled against North Delhi’s disciplined bowling, managing to score only 101 runs while losing 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

East Delhi had a rocky start, losing two crucial wickets for just 17 runs. Vanshika Leela and Sonakshi attempted to stabilize the innings, adding 30 runs for the third wicket, which raised hopes for a respectable score. However, the match turned in North Delhi’s favor when Leela was dismissed in the 10th over after scoring 26 runs off 24 balls. Following her departure, East Delhi lost wickets at regular intervals. Poorva Sivaach contributed 20 runs, but six of the team’s batswomen failed to reach double figures.

For North Delhi Strikers, Najma excelled with the ball, taking 2 wickets for just 15 runs, while Reshika Beniwal also claimed 2 wickets for 25 runs. Apeksha Anand bowled economically, taking 1 wicket for only 10 runs in three overs. Chasing 102 runs, North Delhi lost Upasana Yadav early but quickly regained their momentum.

Shivi Sharma and Archana took charge of the chase, confidently tackling East Delhi’s bowling attack. The duo formed an unbroken partnership of 92 runs for the second wicket, completely taking the match away from East Delhi Riders.

Shivi completed a brilliant half-century, playing a pivotal role in the chase with an unbeaten 57 runs off 43 balls. Archana supported her well, remaining not out with 38 runs from 32 balls.
