Sunyash Shedge Joins India-A Team for ODI Series Against Australia-A

Puducherry, October 4 (Daily Kiran) : Sunyash Shedge has been included in the India-A team for the upcoming ODI series against Australia-A, which begins on October 4 in Puducherry. The seam-bowling all-rounder steps in for Hardik Pandya, who has been ruled out due to injury.

Pandya was initially selected last month, but his participation hinged on fitness clearance. On September 19, he was sidelined after experiencing discomfort in his right calf. An MRI scan later revealed a mild case of intramedullary edema, similar to right medial tibial stress syndrome.

A source confirmed on Sunday that Shedge has replaced the injured Pandya. Shedge himself had been recovering from a quadriceps injury at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

The 23-year-old made his international debut in June during India’s T20 tour of Ireland. He also participated in T20 series against England and Zimbabwe, though he has yet to claim a wicket. Shedge impressed during the India-A 50-over tri-series in Sri Lanka earlier this year, scoring 147 runs and taking two wickets across five matches. However, he will miss Mumbai’s first Ranji Trophy match against Chandigarh on October 11 due to his selection for the India-A team.

Additionally, middle-order batsman Naman Dhir will not play in the 50-over series against Australia-A, as he has been called up to replace Washington Sundar in India’s T20 squad for the five-match series against the West Indies.

Sundar has been released from the T20 team to prepare for the Test matches against New Zealand in November, during which he will play for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy. Ruturaj Gaikwad will captain the India-A team in the matches scheduled for October 6, 9, and 11.

The India-A team comprises Ruturaj Gaikwad (captain), Priyansh Arya, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal (vice-captain), Rajat Patidar, Kumar Kushagra (wicketkeeper), Nishant Sindhu, Vipraj Nigam, Arshin Kulkarni, Arshad Khan, Prabhsimran Singh (wicketkeeper), Gurjapneet Singh, Yash Thakur, and Sunyash Shedge.
