Nitish Kumar to Retain Z Plus Security After Resigning as Chief Minister

Patna, April 2: In light of discussions surrounding Nitish Kumar’s imminent resignation from the chief ministerial position, a significant decision regarding his security has been made. He will continue to receive Z Plus security even after stepping down. The Bihar Home Department has issued an official order regarding this matter.

The Home Department has written to the Director General of Police (DGP), addressing not only Kumar’s security but also mentioning his oath-taking as a Rajya Sabha member and his resignation from the chief minister’s role.

The order states, “Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is entitled to security under the Bihar Special Security Act-2000. He has been elected to the Rajya Sabha and will soon resign from the chief ministerial position to take his oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha.”

Furthermore, it notes, “In light of this, after reviewing the security arrangements, a decision has been made to provide Z Plus category security to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.” The letter to the DGP emphasizes that security should be provided to Kumar in accordance with the state government’s decision.

There are indications that Nitish Kumar may resign from his chief ministerial role after the Hindu month of Kharmas. Following his declaration as a Rajya Sabha member, he resigned from the Legislative Council on March 30. He is set to take his oath as a Rajya Sabha member on April 10. This move could signal a change in leadership in Bihar, although the situation regarding his resignation remains unclear.

Sources close to the chief minister’s residence indicate that Kumar will take his Rajya Sabha oath on April 10. He is expected to travel from Patna to Delhi on April 8 or 9. His resignation from the chief ministerial position could occur anytime after April 13, as Kharmas concludes on April 14.
