Chennai, April 2: Congress MP Manickam Tagore has launched a sharp critique against the central government. He accused the government of denying opposition leader Rahul Gandhi the opportunity to address the Lok Sabha regarding the Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Bill.
Tagore expressed his concerns on social media platform X, stating, “The government’s desperation is now evident. A significant bill affecting the rights and dignity of our CAPF personnel is being rushed through the Lok Sabha. This is happening just as the opposition leader is engaged in pre-scheduled election rallies in Assam, which were announced well in advance. Preparations for these rallies were already complete, and public meetings were set. Suddenly, the bill is listed for today.”
He questioned the haste with which the government is presenting the bill, asking, “Why the rush? Why avoid a fair and comprehensive debate? Why is the opposition leader not being given the chance to speak on issues affecting our soldiers? This is not a coincidence; it is a calculated parliamentary strategy.”
Tagore further emphasized on X, “A confident government does not fear debate. A government committed to justice does not rush through laws in the absence of dissenting voices. This bill raises serious constitutional concerns. It disregards court rulings, denies fairness to CAPF officers, and undermines institutional balance. Now, it is being pushed forward while deliberately minimizing scrutiny. India deserves better. Our forces deserve fairness. Parliament deserves integrity.”
He also shared a letter on X regarding the Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Bill, 2026, stating, “Amit Shah proposes that the bill regulating the recruitment and service conditions of Group A General Duty officers and other officials in the Central Armed Police Forces, as passed by the Rajya Sabha, be considered.”
