New Delhi, March 19: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will file his nomination for the position of President of the Janata Dal (United) today. The nomination papers will be submitted at the party’s central office in New Delhi at 4:00 PM for the 2025-2028 term.
Kumar will be accompanied by party leaders, including the working president and leader of the parliamentary party in the Rajya Sabha, Sanjay Kumar Jha, Legislative Council member Shrawan Kumar, and Sanjay Kumar Singh “Gandhi,” among others. They will hand over the nomination papers to the party’s election officer, Anil Prasad Hegde.
Elections for the organization at the state level have already been conducted within JD(U). The formal process for electing the national president is now underway, adhering to the set timeline.
Nominations for the national president can be submitted until March 22. Scrutiny will take place on March 23, and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is March 24. After this, the situation will be clear. However, as no other candidates have emerged so far, it is widely believed that Nitish Kumar will be elected unopposed. The entire process appears to be a mere formality.
Party state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha has already stated that every worker wishes for Nitish Kumar to continue as president. This indicates that JD(U) is not in favor of any leadership change at this time. The party aims to maintain trust in experience and stability, especially considering the upcoming political landscape.
It is noteworthy that following Nitish Kumar’s decision to enter the Rajya Sabha, his son Nishant Kumar has made his entry into politics. Meanwhile, discussions regarding the new Chief Minister of Bihar are intensifying, although it remains unclear who will take on that role.
