Kolkata, April 3: Nitish Kumar Reddy of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) was named ‘Player of the Match’ after an impressive all-round performance against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). In the sixth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Reddy scored 39 runs off 24 balls, including one six and four fours. He also took two wickets for just 17 runs in two overs.
Thanks to Reddy’s stellar performance, SRH won the match by 65 runs, marking their first victory of the season. Batting first at Eden Gardens, SRH posted a total of 226 runs, losing eight wickets. In response, KKR managed only 161 runs in 16 overs.
Expressing his joy over his performance, Reddy stated, “I feel really good. This is the match-winning display I have been waiting for a long time. I’m glad I performed at the right moment.”
Last season, Reddy struggled with injuries, scoring only 182 runs in 13 matches and taking just two wickets. He reflected, “Last season didn’t go as planned due to multiple injuries. I didn’t bowl much, but I wanted to improve my bowling. I took a break and worked hard on it before the IPL, and now I can see the results on the field.”
Reddy faced significant injury challenges last year, including a knee injury that forced him to withdraw from the England tour in July and a quadriceps injury during the Australia tour in October. However, he is now fit and ready to contribute. “I feel great now. Thanks to the trainers and physios who took care of me. My body feels completely fit,” he added.
