Nitish Kumar Files Nomination for Rajya Sabha Amid Political Buzz in Bihar

Patna, March 5: The political landscape in Bihar is buzzing with activity as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has decided to run for the Rajya Sabha. This move is expected to bring significant changes to the state’s political dynamics. On Thursday, Kumar, along with BJP National President Nitin Nabin and four other NDA candidates, submitted their nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah was also present during this event. The NDA candidates, including Nitish Kumar, Nitin Nabin, Ramnath Thakur, Shivesh Kumar Ram, and Upendra Kushwaha, arrived at the assembly premises to file their nomination papers.

Earlier, Nitish Kumar shared on the social media platform X, stating, “Had a courtesy meeting with Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah in Patna.”

On the same day, Kumar posted on X, expressing gratitude to his supporters: “For over two decades, you have consistently placed your trust in me, enabling us to serve Bihar with dedication. Your faith has empowered Bihar to present a new dimension of development and respect.” He further mentioned, “Since the beginning of my parliamentary journey, I have aspired to be a member of both houses of the Bihar legislature and both houses of Parliament. I aim to become a Rajya Sabha member in this election.”

The Election Commission of India announced the schedule for biennial elections to fill 37 vacant seats across 10 states on February 18. These seats are becoming vacant as the current members’ terms will end in April 2026. According to the notified schedule, voting will take place on March 16 from 9 AM to 4 PM, with counting occurring the same day at 5 PM.

Earlier, Amit Shah visited the Chief Minister’s residence in Patna, where he met with Nitish Kumar. Several leaders, including BJP National President Nitin Nabin and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, were also present for discussions. Reports indicate that the meeting addressed the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, the current political situation in Bihar, and future strategies.
