Ranchi, June 3: Nitin Navin, the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), will embark on a significant two-day visit to Jharkhand on June 6 and 7. This visit comes in anticipation of the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for June 18, where two seats will be contested in the state.
During this visit, it is expected that the BJP will finalize the names of its candidates for the Rajya Sabha. To prepare for the national president’s trip, a meeting of the organizational committee was held at the state BJP office in Ranchi, chaired by state president Aditya Sahu. The meeting outlined the agenda and delegated responsibilities among various leaders.
Senior leaders and officials present included Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, Rajya Sabha MP Deepak Prakash, MP Manish Jaiswal, and Organization General Secretary Karmveer Singh. State General Secretary Amar Kumar Bauri noted that this will be Nitin Navin’s first visit to Jharkhand since becoming the national president. He will participate in organizational meetings and events with party workers.
Navin has a special connection to Ranchi and Jharkhand, as he was born and educated there. Political circles view this visit as closely linked to the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Voting for the two seats from Jharkhand will take place on June 18, with the last date for filing nominations set for June 8. The BJP is preparing to field a candidate for one of the seats.
A panel of three potential candidates has been sent to the central leadership for consideration. It is anticipated that the final decision on the candidate’s name will be made in the presence of the national president. The BJP candidate is likely to file nomination papers on June 7, coinciding with Navin’s visit.
In the assembly, the BJP and its allied parties hold a total of 24 MLAs, while 28 votes are required to win one Rajya Sabha seat. Despite this, the BJP leadership is also claiming a chance for the second seat. Recently, state president Aditya Sahu expressed confidence that some MLAs outside the NDA would vote ‘in accordance with their conscience,’ potentially providing additional support to the party.
