Lucknow, September 1: After the completion of regular recruitment for Group ‘K’ officials at the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board, the newly appointed 40 officials met with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday. The Chief Minister congratulated the selected officials, stating that this recruitment, which occurred after a long interval, will enhance the board’s efficiency and accelerate efforts related to environmental protection.
CM Yogi highlighted that the state government’s goal is to strengthen the selection process in government services, ensuring that merit is prioritized alongside transparency. The new recruitment procedure implemented at the Pollution Control Board is a significant step in this direction.
He emphasized that the responsibilities of the Pollution Control Board are directly linked to the state’s environment and the health of its citizens. Therefore, the newly appointed officials must utilize their technical expertise with full responsibility, sensitivity, and integrity.
The Chief Minister instructed the officials to take their training seriously and to understand the departmental processes and on-ground challenges. A total of 40 officials have been selected, including 26 Assistant Environmental Engineers and 14 Assistant Scientific Officers. Among the selected candidates, 21 are graduates from various IITs, while others have received education from prestigious institutions across the country.
Notably, eight women are among the selected officials. This recruitment process stands out as it was modified in accordance with the Chief Minister’s directives and principles. Previously, recruitment for Group ‘K’ officials was primarily based on interviews. The old regulations from 1995 were amended to establish a two-tier selection process that includes both written examinations and interviews.
In the new system, the written exam carries an 85% weightage, while the interview accounts for 15%. This change places significant emphasis on academic and technical qualifications during the selection process. Following the revised regulations, advertisements for the positions of 26 Assistant Environmental Engineers and 14 Assistant Scientific Officers were published on February 27, 2026.
The written examination was conducted simultaneously in various cities across the state on April 27, facilitated by IIT Kanpur. The results of the written exam were announced on June 8. Subsequently, four interview panels were formed, chaired by retired judges from the High Court, which included experts from various IITs and universities. The interviews were completed by July 4, and the final results were declared on July 8. This time, instead of immediate field deployment, a training program has been arranged for the newly selected officials.
In line with the Chief Minister’s directives, a one-month training program has been scheduled for the officials. A week-long session is being conducted at IIM Lucknow.
The government believes that regular recruitment of technically skilled officials and their training will improve the monitoring of the Pollution Control Board, compliance with environmental standards, and the effectiveness of field operations.
