Nine Maoists Surrender in Kanker, Chhattisgarh, Boosting Anti-Naxal Efforts

Mumbai, March 28: In a significant development in the campaign to make Kanker free from Naxal influence, nine Maoists have surrendered in the past four days. Superintendent of Police Nikhil Rakhecha reported that after six Maoist cadres surrendered on March 25 and 26, three more decided to abandon violence and return to the mainstream on Saturday.

The surrendered Maoists include ACM Radhika Kunjam, ACM Sandeep Kadiyam, and PM Renu Padda. They handed over three weapons, comprising two SLRs and one rifle.

According to police, efforts are ongoing to contact other active cadres in the area based on information provided by the surrendered Maoists, encouraging them to also return to the mainstream.

Inspector General of Police for the Bastar Range, Sundar Raj Pattalingam, welcomed this development, noting that a total of nine Maoist cadres have returned to the mainstream in the last four days, which is a positive sign. He urged remaining Maoists to abandon violence and take advantage of the government’s rehabilitation policy.

He emphasized that this opportunity for surrender is limited in time, urging Maoist cadres to make swift decisions to step towards a peaceful and dignified life.

The police department stated that a formal program will be organized once the rehabilitation and reintegration processes for all surrendered cadres are completed.

Additional Superintendent of Police for Pakhanjur, Rakesh Kure, mentioned that six Maoists had surrendered two days prior, and three more followed suit in Partapur. He urged the remaining Naxalites to also surrender, assuring them that their safety would be the department’s responsibility.

The surrender of these Maoists marks a significant success in the anti-Naxal campaign.
