Jalandhar, May 6: Multiple special teams from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) have arrived at the site of a powerful explosion outside an Army camp near the Khalsa area of Amritsar late Tuesday night.
Sources indicate that the teams will investigate the cause of the blast, with further revelations expected in the case.
According to Punjab police, the explosion was triggered by a fire in a scooter. Authorities are currently probing the exact cause of the incident. The scooter involved belonged to Gurpreet Singh, an employee of a courier company, who is now being questioned by the police.
Following the explosion outside the BSF headquarters, another blast occurred near the Khalsa cantonment. The Indian Army, Punjab police, and security agencies quickly arrived at the scene to conduct investigations. The explosion, which took place around 10:50 PM, prompted the deployment of bomb disposal squads (BDS) and forensic teams.
The blast was so loud that it caused panic in the surrounding area, prompting residents to rush out of their homes. Officials confirmed that there were no casualties from this incident.
After the explosion around 10:50 PM, bomb disposal teams and forensic experts were dispatched to the site. The forensic science laboratory team collected samples and other physical evidence for analysis to determine the precise nature and cause of the explosion.
SP Aditya Warrior spoke to reporters, stating, “We received information around 10:30 PM about a blast-like sound near Khalsa. Police and military personnel arrived to confirm the situation. The bomb disposal team is also on-site, and operations are ongoing.”
He further explained that the BDS conducted a thorough inspection of the site while the forensic team gathered evidence for further investigation. Following the incident, the Army secured the area, maintaining strict surveillance due to its proximity to the cantonment.
Officials confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and more information is awaited. This incident follows another explosion that occurred around 8 PM in Jalandhar, near the Punjab Frontier headquarters of the Border Security Force, which was reportedly caused by a scooter fire.
