Greater Noida, July 2: A severe fire broke out late Wednesday night at a labor camp in the Badalpur area of Greater Noida, causing chaos among the workers. The flames spread rapidly, engulfing several tin sheds that housed the laborers. Fortunately, all workers managed to escape safely, avoiding any loss of life. However, their personal belongings, including clothes, utensils, and essential items, were completely destroyed in the blaze.
According to reports, the fire service received notification of the incident around 10:50 PM on Wednesday. Local police and fire department teams promptly arrived at the scene. A total of six fire engines were deployed to control the fire. Three of these fire trucks worked tirelessly for approximately 45 minutes before fully extinguishing the flames. After the fire was put out, relief operations commenced in the area to ensure that no further outbreaks occurred.
District Fire Officer Pradeep Kumar stated that a private construction company had set up a temporary labor camp with tin sheds for about 60 workers in the village of Kachera. The workers lived in these makeshift shelters and prepared meals using small domestic gas cylinders. Initial investigations revealed that a gas leak from one of the small cylinders in a shed triggered the fire. Shortly after, the cylinder exploded, causing the flames to spread rapidly to nearby tin sheds.
During the fire, several small gas cylinders exploded, intensifying the blaze. In no time, two tin sheds were completely reduced to ashes. While the workers successfully escaped with their lives, they were unable to salvage their belongings, resulting in the loss of most of their daily necessities.
Chief Fire Officer Pradeep Choubey confirmed that upon receiving the fire alert, the fire service and local police launched a joint operation. With the assistance of six fire engines, the fire was completely extinguished. The most significant relief is that there were no casualties reported. Currently, the fire department is conducting a detailed investigation into the cause of the fire, with preliminary findings indicating that the gas leak from the domestic cylinder and the subsequent explosion were the primary causes.
