Chennai, June 7: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against four former members of the banned organization Popular Front of India (PFI) in connection with the high-profile Ramalingam murder case. The charges were submitted on Saturday in a special NIA court located in Poonamallee, Chennai.
According to a statement released by the NIA, the accused include K. Mohideen, Mohammad Imran, Thameem Ansari, and Asmat. The agency alleges that these individuals provided shelter to the attackers and conspirators involved in the Ramalingam murder, which was part of a larger plot aimed at inciting communal tension and creating an atmosphere of terror.
The NIA has invoked Section 61(2) and Section 249 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with Section 19 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), against the accused.
The brutal murder of Ramalingam occurred on February 5, 2019, when he opposed PFI members allegedly attempting forced conversions in the Pakkum Vinayakam Thoppu area of Tirubhuvanam. The situation escalated, leading to his death.
Investigations revealed that the four accused had harbored two absconding suspects, Mohammad Burhanuddin and Mohammad Nabeel Hasan, for nearly six years, despite being fully aware of their crimes.
Previously, the NIA had filed a chargesheet against 18 individuals in this case, including six declared absconders. Subsequently, the agency apprehended four of these absconding suspects.
Additionally, the NIA arrested Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Imtathullah for providing shelter to the absconding suspects, with chargesheets filed against them in May 2025 and February 2026, respectively.
