New Delhi, February 20: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against a female commander of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) in connection with a brutal murder case in Narayanpur district, Chhattisgarh, which occurred in November 2023. The case involves the abduction and murder of Amar Singh Uike during a so-called ‘people’s court’ session.
In the chargesheet submitted to the special court in Jagdalpur, the accused, Rajee Kange, also known as Malti or Nirmala, faces multiple charges under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Rajee Kange serves as the commander of the ‘Ravghat Area Committee’ and plays an active role within the Maoist organization.
The NIA’s investigation revealed that in November 2023, Maoists established a people’s court near the village of Gome in the Narayanpur police station area. Amar Singh Uike was abducted and brutally murdered on allegations of being a police informant. After taking over the case from local police, the NIA conducted a thorough investigation, which included witness statements, document collection, forensic analysis, and other technical evidence. It was determined that the accused was the main conspirator behind this heinous act. The Maoists committed this crime under the pretext of accusing the victim of informing the police.
Further investigation into the case (RC-10/2024/NIA/RPR) revealed that this atrocious crime aimed to instill fear among villagers and deter them from opposing Maoist ideology or disregarding organizational directives. Through these people’s courts, Maoists often create an atmosphere of terror among rural populations, thereby maintaining their control in the region.
The NIA has stated that this case is part of its broader strategy to weaken the Maoist ecosystem. The agency has been actively targeting the Maoist network in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and other affected states. In recent years, the NIA has filed chargesheets in several cases involving the murders of political leaders, security personnel, and civilians by Maoists.
This chargesheet reinforces the central government’s zero-tolerance policy against Maoist violence in Chhattisgarh. Although security forces’ operations and development initiatives have reduced Maoist influence in the state, incidents like people’s courts and extortion remain ongoing challenges. The NIA’s action represents a significant step toward delivering justice to the victim’s family and eradicating Maoist terror at its roots.
Officials have stated that the investigation is ongoing, and efforts will continue to identify and bring other involved individuals to justice.
