
Wellington, March 22: The New Zealand women’s cricket team has clinched the ongoing home T20 series against South Africa. In the fourth T20 match played on Sunday, New Zealand defeated South Africa by six wickets, taking an unbeatable 3-1 lead in the series.
South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first, scoring 159 runs for the loss of six wickets. Annerie Dercksen was the standout performer, scoring 55 runs off 32 balls, which included eight fours and one six. Opening batsman Sune Luus contributed with 30 runs, making her the second-highest scorer.
Jess Kerr delivered an impressive bowling performance for New Zealand, claiming three wickets for just 16 runs in her four overs. Captain Amelia Kerr and Sophie Devine also chipped in with one wicket each.
New Zealand chased down the target of 160 runs in 18.3 overs, losing four wickets in the process. Sophie Devine once again played a crucial role in the chase, scoring 64 runs off 34 balls, which featured four sixes and six fours. Additionally, Amelia Kerr scored 31 runs, while Georgia Plimmer added 29 runs. Brooke Haliday remained unbeaten at 16, and Maddy Green contributed 9 runs.
For South Africa, Chloe Tryon took two wickets, while Annerie Dercksen and N. Malaba each claimed one wicket.
Jess Kerr was named Player of the Match for her outstanding performance.
The fifth match of the series will take place on March 25 at Hagley Oval, Christchurch. Currently, both the South African women’s and men’s cricket teams are touring New Zealand for a series of five T20 matches each. The New Zealand women’s team has already secured the T20 series, leading 3-1, while the men’s team holds a crucial 2-1 advantage.
