New Delhi, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : Mark Chapman, the renowned all-rounder, has signed a casual contract with New Zealand Cricket, allowing him to participate in the Big Bash League (BBL). This decision comes as the New Zealand Cricket Board offers its players the option to engage in league cricket under such contracts.
While it remains unclear which team Chapman will join in the BBL, the left-handed explosive batsman and spinner is set to play in Australia during the peak of the domestic summer, rather than competing in New Zealand’s local tournaments.
Expressing his gratitude, Chapman thanked New Zealand Cricket for their support throughout his career. He stated, “I am truly grateful for New Zealand Cricket’s backing, and I am excited about the upcoming series against India. I am fully committed to performing in that series.”
Chapman is not the only cricketer to secure a casual contract with New Zealand Cricket. Others, including Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson, Adam Milne, and Tim Seifert, are also seizing opportunities in league cricket.
On the other hand, fast bowler Matt Fisher has benefited from Chapman’s omission from the main contract list, earning a central contract instead. Selector Gavin Larsen highlighted the need to strengthen the pace bowling lineup in light of the upcoming Test series against India, Australia, and Sri Lanka. He noted, “Matt can bowl at high speeds, which is invaluable for any team’s balance, so we are pleased to have him on the central contract list.”
The 28-year-old Fisher has previously played one Test, three ODIs, and one T20 match against Zimbabwe in 2025.
