
Auckland, March 15: The T20 series between the New Zealand and South Africa women’s cricket teams kicked off on Sunday. In the first match held at Eden Park, New Zealand secured a commanding victory over South Africa by 80 runs, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first, scoring 190 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs. Opening batswoman Georgia Plimmer played a crucial role, scoring 63 runs off 44 balls, including 3 sixes and 5 fours. Captain Amelia Kerr also made a significant contribution with 78 runs off 44 balls, featuring 2 sixes and 11 fours. The duo formed a formidable partnership, adding 146 runs for the second wicket, which laid a solid foundation for New Zealand after losing their first wicket without a run on the board. Apart from Plimmer and Kerr, no other batsman managed to make a substantial score.
