New Delhi, August 26: Bangladesh fast bowler Shariful Islam requested permission from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to play for Kent in the County Championship. However, the BCB has denied him a No Objection Certificate (NOC).
The board believes that allowing Shariful to participate in the County Championship could impact his international commitments. This is the primary reason the left-arm fast bowler was not granted the NOC.
Reports indicate that “Shariful is scheduled to play 5 Tests, 7 T20s, and 6 ODIs in the next three months.” Considering his workload, the BCB decided against issuing the NOC.
The BCB is concerned about Shariful’s participation in all formats. He recently returned from a hamstring injury. Granting him an NOC for four county matches could put undue pressure on his body, making it difficult for him to be fully fit for upcoming international matches. Therefore, the team management and medical staff believe it is more important for him to focus on training and maintaining fitness rather than playing.
In contrast, the BCB has granted a fully fit fast bowler, Khalid Ahmed, an NOC to play for Kent in the County Championship.
Shariful Islam is considered one of Bangladesh’s top fast bowlers. Due to his injury, he missed being part of Bangladesh’s historic victory against Australia in Darwin. He had to watch the match from the dressing room but made a comeback in the second Test played at South Mackay. Although Bangladesh faced a defeat by an innings and 51 runs against Australia, Shariful delivered a remarkable performance, taking 7 wickets for 48 runs in the first innings and playing a crucial role in dismissing the opposing team for 210 runs.
