Gandhinagar, August 11: A new showroom named ‘Garvi Gurjari’ was inaugurated on Monday in Kudasan, Gandhinagar. The state government’s aim is to better connect traditional handloom, handicrafts, and tribal art with buyers while creating more market opportunities for local artisans.
Khadi, Cottage, and Rural Industries Minister Naresh Patel inaugurated the showroom in the presence of State Minister Swaroopji Thakor.
This outlet is operated by the Gujarat State Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited and will showcase traditional products from various parts of the state.
Patel emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting the handloom sector and implementing Prime Minister Modi’s call for ‘Vocal for Local.’ Efforts are also being made to preserve traditional arts, which are a vital part of Gujarat’s cultural identity.
He stated, “Artisans from Patan, Surendranagar, Rajkot, and Kutch are working hard to keep these traditional arts alive. The new showroom will provide an opportunity for people from Gujarat, other parts of the country, and abroad to access these products.”
The minister noted that this initiative could also attract the younger generation to traditional crafts and create additional employment opportunities in the handicraft sector.
The showroom will feature traditional handloom products, handicrafts, embroidery, clay pots, metal artifacts, artistic home decor items, and tribal art and craft products.
According to Patel, the goal of this initiative is not only to preserve traditional art forms at risk of extinction but also to provide artisans and artists with better market opportunities, recognition, and pathways to self-reliance.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Principal Secretary and Commissioner of Cottage and Rural Industries, Mohammad Shahid, Managing Director of Gujarat State Handloom and Handicrafts Corporation (Garvi Gurjari) Ardra Agarwal, along with government officials, art enthusiasts, and residents of Gandhinagar.
