New Delhi, August 12: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman drew attention by opting to travel by Vande Bharat train instead of flying to attend the BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting.
Photos and details of her journey were shared through the official ‘X’ handle of the Finance Ministry. It was noted that Sitharaman traveled from New Delhi to Jaipur on the Vande Bharat train, where the BRICS FMCBG meeting is set to take place.
During her journey, the Finance Minister engaged warmly with her fellow passengers. According to a second post shared by the ministry, two students pursuing post-graduation in media studies and two young media professionals accompanied her to Jaipur.
These four young individuals had the opportunity to discuss significant national and global issues with the Finance Minister. The conversation covered topics such as geopolitics, the global economy, India’s economic progress, and various issues concerning youth.
The ministry reported that the youth asked Sitharaman questions regarding careers, startups, the digital economy, and the role of young people in India’s development. She patiently answered all their questions and encouraged them to actively contribute to the country’s economy.
Traveling by a modern train like Vande Bharat not only saves time but also reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘people’s participation’ and ‘public dialogue.’ The Finance Minister’s interaction with co-passengers, especially the youth, is seen as part of this initiative.
The BRICS FMCBG meeting is being held in Jaipur, where finance ministers and central bank governors from BRICS nations will discuss global economic conditions, trade, digital payment systems, sustainable development, and financial cooperation. As India holds the presidency of BRICS this year, the significance of this meeting is heightened.
