Ahmedabad, August 12: The Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) achieved a remarkable milestone on August 10, recording the highest number of passengers and daily earnings in its history. On that day, 631,761 passengers utilized the bus services, generating a revenue of ₹39,77,935.
On Monday, a total of 970 AMTS buses operated, accommodating over 631,000 passengers throughout the day. According to AMTS, these figures represent the highest recorded for any weekday.
The transport service noted that these statistics emerged as it strives to provide easier, more reliable, and extensive public transport options in Ahmedabad. AMTS claims to be India’s oldest municipal transport corporation for local transport services. It currently offers route information, fare details, and other services through its official system.
Plans are also underway to expand the fleet, with a work order issued for 1,150 new electric air-conditioned buses. These new buses are intended to operate in Ahmedabad and surrounding areas under the AUDA jurisdiction, enhancing public transport facilities for residents and daily commuters.
AMTS stated that the goal of this expansion is to strengthen public transport accessibility and provide greater convenience to passengers. The introduction of electric AC buses is expected to modernize the fleet, offering more comfortable and efficient services in the city and nearby regions.
The latest figures highlight the substantial daily usage of the city’s municipal bus network. AMTS has emphasized efforts to increase bus availability, ensure regular and smooth operations, and improve amenities for passengers.
The organization remarked, “In the future, the arrival of new electric AC buses will further strengthen the public transport system, providing citizens of Ahmedabad and surrounding areas with more comfortable, reliable, and accessible services.”
