Beijing, August 12: The National Development and Reform Commission of China, along with the National Energy Administration, has recently unveiled the “15th Five–Year Plan” for the development of the coal industry. This plan outlines key objectives, including the establishment of a modern coal industry system by 2030.
Coal remains China’s primary energy source. The establishment of a modern coal industry system is expected to provide robust support for building a strong energy nation and establishing a new energy system.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan, the framework for coal development in China was significantly improved, with coal production reaching 4.85 billion tons. This period saw enhancements in the structure of the coal industry.
The 15th Five-Year Plan marks a critical phase for the development of the coal industry. Coal consumption is projected to peak at the highest levels. China aims to optimize the spatial layout of coal development, accelerate the process of improving and upgrading the coal industry’s structure, and strengthen the development of the coal production, supply, storage, and sales systems. The plan also emphasizes the intelligent upgrading of coal mines, promoting green and low-carbon transformations in the coal sector, enhancing the clean and efficient use of coal, boosting technological innovation within the coal industry, reinforcing safety management in coal production, and advancing the modernization of industry administration.
