New Opportunities for Norwegian Investors Arise from India-EFTA Agreement

The India-EFTA agreement opens new investment avenues for Norway, enhancing collaboration in manufacturing and green energy sectors.

New Delhi, October 18 (Daily Kiran) : India’s robust economic growth and the recently signed trade and economic partnership agreement with the EFTA are creating significant opportunities for Norwegian investors. According to industry assessments, sectors such as manufacturing, renewable energy, infrastructure, financial services, and the digital economy are seeing rapidly increasing investment prospects.

A report from EY India projects that India’s GDP growth will average around 6.5% until 2030. By the end of the decade, India is expected to become the world’s third-largest economy.

Experts believe that strong domestic demand, rising investments, rapidly developing infrastructure, and reforms aimed at improving business ease are the key drivers of this growth.

The India-EFTA trade and economic partnership agreement, effective from October 2025, is seen as a pivotal milestone in the economic relations between India and Norway. This agreement aims to promote trade liberalization, facilitate investment flows, and deepen cooperation in areas such as innovation, sustainability, and advanced technologies.

The agreement includes a commitment to invest $100 billion over 15 years, with expectations to create one million direct jobs in India. This aligns with broader goals to enhance manufacturing capacity and strengthen India’s position in global value chains.

Industry experts view this agreement as a strong opportunity to connect Norway’s technical expertise and sustainability-focused approach with India’s vast market and development ambitions.

Key sectors identified for cooperation include manufacturing, renewable energy, oil and gas, maritime services, seafood processing, information and communication technology (ICT), fintech, and financial services. The increasing bilateral collaboration under the agreement is likely to benefit these sectors significantly.

Additionally, India’s rapidly growing digital economy and payment systems are becoming attractive for Norwegian companies, providing them access to one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing consumer markets.

According to reports, policy measures taken by India to attract foreign investment are also creating a favorable environment for long-term investors, further strengthening economic cooperation between India and Norway.
