Mumbai, October 19 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian stock market will hold a special Muhurat trading session on November 8, from 2:20 PM to 3:30 PM, in celebration of Diwali. This announcement was made by both exchanges on Monday.

A pre-open session will take place from 2:05 PM to 2:20 PM, lasting for 15 minutes. Following that, regular trading will occur until 3:30 PM, with the closing time for securities under the Capital Account Settlement (CAS) set for 3:15 PM.

This special trading session will encompass various segments, including capital markets (equities), equity derivatives, currency derivatives, and commodity derivatives. Standard settlement and market integrity protocols will be enforced for all trades during this period. Regular trading will be suspended for the rest of the day, resuming fully in the next trading session.

Diwali marks the beginning of the new Hindu year, and investments during this time are considered auspicious. Consequently, exchanges conduct this special session, known as Muhurat trading, to encourage new investments and the purchase of blue-chip stocks.

Typically held in the evening on Diwali, the session has shifted to the afternoon since 2025. Last year’s Muhurat trading session was positive, with the Sensex starting at 84,484.67, reaching a high of 84,665.44 during the day, and closing at 84,426.34, up by 62.97 points. The Nifty began at 25,901.20, peaked at 25,934.35, and finished at 25,868.60, gaining 25.45 points.
