Netanyahu Meets Christian Soldiers Amid Controversy Over Jesus Statue Incident

Tel Aviv, April 27: Recently, a photograph of an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) soldier from Lebanon surfaced, capturing widespread attention. The image showed the soldier vandalizing a statue of Jesus Christ, sparking significant backlash. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with various Christian soldiers and commanders from the IDF.

Netanyahu shared a video of the meeting on the social media platform X, stating, “Yesterday, I met with a wonderful group of young men and women. They are Christian soldiers and commanders from different IDF units. They play a vital role in our military and work diligently.”

He further emphasized, “This truth is entirely different from what is often portrayed outside. Israel not only protects the rights of Christians in the Middle East but is also home to those Christian soldiers who stand shoulder to shoulder with their fellow soldiers to defend their Christian brothers and sisters throughout the region.”

Netanyahu praised the IDF soldiers, saying, “I heard their personal stories. Their commitment, sacrifices, and the paths they have chosen deeply impressed me. Israel is the only country in the Middle East where the Christian community not only remains safe but thrives, grows, and succeeds. I salute you all. Thank you for your service, courage, and tremendous contributions to the State of Israel.”

In connection with the statue incident, Foreign Minister Gidon Saar issued an apology, stating on X, “I trust that strict action will be taken against those responsible for this disgraceful act. We apologize to all Christians whose feelings were hurt by this incident.” The IDF also assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted, promising appropriate measures.
