Kolkata, May 2: NDA leaders have targeted the Trinamool Congress (TMC) as re-elections take place in West Bengal. They claim that TMC is aware of its impending defeat, prompting them to resort to fraudulent tactics, such as placing stickers on electronic voting machines (EVMs) to manipulate results.
BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member Rahul Sinha stated, “It seems that the Trinamool is losing the elections. Their workers are also realizing this. Reports suggest that TMC workers are involved in extortion and illegal activities. If they lose power, they will not be able to continue such activities. This is why many TMC workers have distanced themselves from the party and are reluctant to participate in the counting process. Consequently, Mamata Banerjee has taken to the streets to boost the morale of her party members.”
Sinha further alleged, “Accusations of tampering with EVMs have emerged in both constituencies. It is claimed that the cameras were turned away, and stickers were secretly placed on the EVMs to ensure votes only favored TMC, excluding other parties. As a result, the Election Commission has decided to conduct re-elections at all booths, which is considered a correct decision.”
BJP national spokesperson Prem Shukla commented, “In West Bengal, TMC workers allegedly placed stickers with BJP symbols on EVMs. This prompted the Election Commission to order re-elections to maintain fairness. Today’s re-elections are expected to be impartial, and it is believed that BJP will gain a significant advantage at 15 booths.”
Regarding the Supreme Court granting anticipatory bail to Congress leader Pawan Khera, Shukla remarked, “The police are not acting out of vengeance; they are fulfilling their responsibilities. If someone has committed fraud and prepared fake documents, and an FIR has been filed against them, it is the police’s duty to take appropriate action against such fraudsters. The Supreme Court has also directed Khera to appear whenever summoned by the police.”
BJP candidate Dilip Ghosh from the Kharagpur Sadar constituency stated, “There is nothing happening there. TMC is staging a drama outside and trying to heat up the atmosphere. There are no issues at all. This is merely an attempt to boost the morale of their workers and draw public attention. In reality, nothing is occurring.”
