Manipur DGP Inspects Police Training College Amid Ongoing Crackdown on Crime

Manipurs DGP Mukesh Singh reviews police training facilities while authorities arrest two armed individuals in Imphal East.

Imphal, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : The Manipur police department is actively working to strengthen law and order in the region. On November 3, DGP Mukesh Singh visited the Manipur Police Training College (MPTC) to assess its infrastructure and training facilities. During the visit, he reviewed ongoing training activities and identified areas needing improvement.

The primary aim of the visit was to evaluate the college’s infrastructure needs, explore ways to enhance training facilities, and increase the college’s capacity to meet the training requirements of Manipur police personnel. Singh emphasized that the quality of training should not be compromised, as effective training is fundamental to better policing.

Future discussions included the introduction of specialized modules on modern weaponry, cybercrime, and crowd control at the college.

In a related effort to combat crime, authorities made significant arrests on the same day. A joint team of Imphal East police commandos and 31 Assam Rifles apprehended two individuals in the Arapati Mayai Leikai area, under the jurisdiction of the Irilbung police station.

The suspects were identified as 47-year-old Pukhrihongbam Shanta Singh, also known as Natum, and 56-year-old Sapam Premjit Singh, known as AB, both residents of Imphal. They are accused of brandishing weapons to intimidate local residents.

During a search, police seized a .32 caliber pistol with a magazine, 16 live cartridges, and a Honda Activa scooter from the suspects. Authorities have registered cases against them and initiated an investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that the duo was attempting to extort money while instilling fear in the community. The police are also looking into the origins of the weapons and any potential links to other criminal activities.
