Guwahati, March 5: Three candidates from Assam, Jogen Mohan, Terash Gowalla, and Pramod Boro, submitted their nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections on Thursday.
The nominations were filed at the office of the Returning Officer located within the Assam Assembly premises. Central Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was present during the nomination process.
Among the three candidates, Jogen Mohan and Terash Gowalla have been nominated by the BJP, while Pramod Boro is the candidate from the alliance.
The elections are being held for three Rajya Sabha seats in Assam, marking the formal commencement of the electoral process with the submission of nominations.
After the nominations, Sarbananda Sonowal spoke to reporters, stating that these candidates represent strong and significant communities in Assam. He emphasized that all three leaders have been serving the public for a long time and have consistently worked for the welfare of the state’s residents.
Sonowal also mentioned that these leaders represent various regions of Assam, including Barak Valley, Brahmaputra Valley, and the hilly areas.
He expressed confidence that these leaders would effectively raise issues related to Assam in Parliament.
Congratulating the candidates, the Central Minister noted that together they would represent the BJP and UPPL alliance in the Rajya Sabha, strengthening Assam’s voice on a national level.
Given the ruling alliance’s substantial strength in the Assembly, it is anticipated that they will secure all three Rajya Sabha seats.
These elections are being held to fill the vacancies of Rajya Sabha members whose terms are expiring. If necessary, voting will be conducted by the members of the Assam Assembly as per the schedule announced by the Election Commission.
