India Shines at 2026 Asian Para Games with Historic Medal Haul

India achieved a historic performance at the 2026 Asian Para Games, winning 114 medals, including 30 golds, showcasing remarkable athletic talent.

Nagoya, Japan, October 24 (Daily Kiran) : India delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 Asian Para Games held in Nagoya, Japan, securing a record 114 medals. This fifth edition of the Games marked India’s best showing to date.

The Indian contingent claimed 30 gold, 35 silver, and 49 bronze medals, placing fourth in the overall medal tally behind China, Japan, and Uzbekistan.

This achievement is particularly significant given that India sent 135 fewer athletes compared to the previous edition. A total of 168 athletes represented India in Nagoya, surpassing the medal count from the 2023 Hangzhou Games, where India won 108 medals with 27 golds, despite having 303 athletes.

Athletics was the standout sport for India, contributing 65 of the 114 medals, an increase from 53 medals in the last edition.

Despite a smaller team, the performance of Indian para-athletes highlights their dedication and determination to excel on the global stage. Their success signals a promising future for para-sports in India.

There is a pressing need to enhance the facilities and opportunities available to para-athletes. Providing access to more sports in which India has not traditionally participated will be crucial. With improved training and resources, India is poised to achieve even greater success in future editions of the Para Games.
