New Delhi, May 14: NASA and SpaceX have announced a new launch date for their 34th Commercial Resupply Services mission, known as CRS-34, to the International Space Station (ISS). The launch, originally scheduled for May 13, was postponed due to adverse weather conditions. The new launch is set for Friday, May 15, at 6:05 PM EDT.
In Indian Standard Time, the mission will take place on May 16 at 3:35 AM. The launch will occur from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The SpaceX Dragon spacecraft will carry approximately 6,500 pounds of scientific equipment, supplies, and other essential items to the ISS.
According to NASA, the previous launch attempt was canceled due to violations of weather-related regulations (unfavorable cloud rules). The new launch window will not only help keep the cargo fresh but also ensure proper phasing with the space station.
NASA’s live launch coverage will begin on May 15 at 5:45 PM on the NASA Plus app, Amazon Prime, and NASA’s YouTube channel. The Dragon spacecraft is expected to dock with the ISS on Sunday, May 17, around 7 AM, with live coverage starting at 5:30 AM.
The significance of this mission lies in its delivery of crucial food supplies, scientific experiment equipment, and other provisions for the astronauts aboard the space station. This marks NASA’s 34th mission under its Commercial Resupply Program, utilizing the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft.
Meanwhile, both NASA and SpaceX teams are closely monitoring the weather conditions. If the weather does not cooperate on May 15, the next launch opportunity will be scheduled later. Space enthusiasts can watch the launch live.
